If you’ve recently purchased a used trailer, you may be wondering how to take care of your new equipment now that you’ve got it. While used trailers are just as durable as new ones, they will need a little extra TLC to ensure their longevity. For tips on how to care for a used trailer once you’ve taken it off the sales floor, check out our helpful article below.

Remove Rust

If you’ve recently purchased a used trailer, it’s not impossible that a layer of rust is sitting on some of your equipment’s various metal components. However, while rust can be tricky to keep at bay, it’s often very easy to remove! Using a wire brush and a rust remover spray, you can simply scrub away this chemical reaction till your trailer is looking shiny and new once more. However, if allowed to sit for long periods of time, rust will eventually lead to corrosion and some serious future repairs. As such, we strongly advise removing the rust as soon as you see it appearing on your trailer.

Lubricate Moving Parts

While trailers are relatively simple machines, they do have a variety of moving parts that will need to be lubricated once a year or more. If you recently purchased a used trailer, we suggest lubing all of your trailer’s moving parts to ensure they don't develop a layer of rust or develop any friction-induced heat damage. While the number of parts you'll need to grease can vary depending on the type of trailer you own, you’ll want to be sure to lubricate your trailer’s hitch, brake rotors, axels, and wheel bearings regardless of your model type.
